5 Ways to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth in Manchester

I can be a bit of a floozy when it comes to sweet thangs.

Whether it’s a canoodle with a rich and gooey Sticky Toffee Pud, drowning in thick, sweet custard or a fling with an oozy, hot chocolate fondant with classic, vanilla bean ice cream, I’m simply powerless to resist.

Often, no matter how satisfying a meal is, I could very well be fit to burst, maybe even struggling for air – but regardless, I will always have a need for dessert.

I have been known from time to time, to dine at one location and then source a pudding from another, if the restaurant in question doesn’t hold what my sweet tooth truly desires. In this case, I’ll head to my fail-safe-sweet-naughty-thing-saviours to satisfy my inner-most cravings.

First up, Gingers Comfort Emporium.

If you’re lucky enough, you’ll find this strictly-for-adults dessert wagon roaming South Manchester locations on a street near you, but if Muhammed won’t come to the Mountain, then the Mountain better get themselves up on the first floor of Afflecks Palace, where you’ll find a more stationary Ginger’s, just waiting to indulge you.

With a range of unique, homemade ice creams on offer (served in some rather marvellous ways), you’ll find exactly what dreams are made of as you get aqainted with their Baked Apple Sorbet, Malted Coconut Milk or my current vice, Chorlton Crack.

Order a scoop with a warm Lush fudge brownie, truly THE BEST brownie you’ll ever gorge on (and I’m a real brownie snob).

The rich, moist, warm fudge bites marry gloriously with the cool, creamy flavours of salted caramel and peanut butter combined. Heavenly.

It’s as good as….well, crack I would imagine.

Next up is a place I’m sure needs no introduction if you’re a native to Manchester, but just in case you’re from out of town, let me share with you a place, where portion control is unheard of, calories are words of blasphemy and more is…well definitely more.

Home Sweet Home

Find them at their original Northern Quarter home, or at their new digs at Great Northern, whatever you do – just find them.

And feast upon their cake display of wonder.

While HSH offers a full savoury menu for you to slip easily into a food coma over, the desserts are really what you’re going to want to keep room for. Served by the slab, with thick layers of super-sweet frosting and piled high with serious sugar, this is no place for diabetics but is Disneyland for lovers of all things wonderfully naughty.

The Truffle Shuffle is a personal fave of mine. Marble sponge with super-sweet vanilla frosting, topped with red velvet, white chocolate truffles and topped off with a seriously bitter dark chocolate drip.

“Mmmm”-exclaimingly indulgent and best enjoyed in bed.

Or if you’d rather stay in…

Chocolate sponge, salted caramel frosting and a wordly array of fudge goodies arranged on top.

There’s really muffin’ better.

Or, if these guys aren’t really wetting your whistle, may I suggest this little number?

The infamous Cakeshake.

A thick malted milkshake, topped with marshmallows, whipped cream and a wedge of somethin’ sweet. Pure unadultered filth and a fabulous way to finish you off after a feed.

Just be sure to have an insulin cocktail waiting for afterwards.

While we’re on the subject of shakes…

You’ve heard me talk about Black Milk Cereal right?

Well, you better add this place to your list too.

But if you thought the only place to get your sweet fix was in the city centre, you batter think again.

And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon could possibly be one of my all time favourite spots in this fair town.

Found in the heart of West Didsbury, this quaint little cake shop serves up a delicious array of homemade baked goods from Sticky Toffee Pudding Tray Bakes (di-vine, order it!) To Maid of Honours that’ll rival your Nan’s secret recipe.

Their Red Velvet cupcake is always a must-order, and whichever layer cake on offer for the day is a sure thing to indulge upon.

Best enjoyed outside on a sunny Spring day, which is often a tall order for Manchester – but equally as scrumptious when hoovered up inside their cosy yet charming cafe.

Sigh, I could go on and on about the ways in which you could sky rocket your blood sugar levels in the city of Manchester, however I simply do not have the time.

All you need to know is that these are just a small selection of what’s on offer – and we’ve barely begun to scratch the icing off all the possibilities for you to get your fix of something sinfully scrumptious.

There’s many a cakery, bakery and sugar spinner that I’m still yet to discover in this town, please share with me your faves so I can add them to the top of my list.

Piece out!

I often go to places and just work my way through the dessert menu. I’m often disappointed by these cake places though, too sweet.
