Can you believe we’re mid-August already?
Yet again another month has sailed us by in a flurry of humid hairdos, crisp G&Ts in the garden and toe blisters the size of golf balls – god bless British Summertime!
Rather than a review, today I thought I’d share some of the highlights of the lip-smacking sensations which passed my lips in the past 30 days or so.
Grab a seat at the table, there’s plenty to go round…
Salt and Pepper Ribs from Mi & Pho (best Vietnamese in Manchester in my opinion).
Crispy, packed full of flavour and so-fresh-from-the-fryer-you-lose-your-fingertips Spring Rolls.
Ultimate comfort food.
ALL the noodles.
Cash only – the leftovers are delicious for breakfast).
The most succulent Sea Bream in Switzerland! (And the most adorable lemon squeezer).
Juicy, moreish pasta dish – a snowstorm of parmesan and lovely chunky of crayfish.
Switzerland is hella pricy, so I saved myself £25 by making a hotel-buffet sandwich. The results were bangin’ (despite it’s anaemic appearance) and I will forever travel with a spare ziplock bag to hand in the future.
Sushi date with Mama in Chorlton.
The Ring looks like a no thrills joint, but they save it all for the food.
Substance over style – ALWAYS.
Brekkie in bed with my love (love = both bacon + Jacob respectively).
Trying to prove yourself by perfectly poaching eggs for your other half’s parents is a stressful milestone in all relationships, I think I passed!
Smorgasboard? Completed it mate. (Apologies for the lack of green). Ham and olive bread topped with homemade coleslaw is an absolute game changer.
Celebrations! Dins at Don Giovanni’s with Jacob and his gorgeous family (he got a first in his Architecture Masters – no biggie whatsoever but I have the cleverest boyfriend in the world).
Meanwhile…same pair, different pizza…
Davardis; if you know, you know.
Like chips straight out the paper, pizza out of the box is always best – wine helps too!
Lining our stomach with hot dogs at Gorilla off Oxford Road before meeting friends for a drink (or 12 – we danced this off later to the sounds of Stevie Wonder).
Homemade biscotti for Jacob’s Grandad Albert! Thoughts on home baked gifts?
It is a scientific fact that a Roast Dinner with friends can cure almost anything. This one from George’s was particularly sensational, despite feeling very underdressed being there..
Sugo with Ffion and Becky! I LOVE taking lovely people to places I love and seeing them fall in love with the food.
I don’t want to oversell this, but this Arancini that will change your life.
House Sugo – so good, we got it thrice!
All the Shapes brunch with my gorgeous friend Christy.
Catch ups where you barely pause to take a breath (or a bite of yolk-dripping sourdough) are my favourite.
And finally…when you’re due to pick your other half up from the airport and he tells you he hasn’t eaten all morning…
So many adventures, scrambled together to make one plateful of happiness – Happy August!
